Discover Maastricht University
trough free guided tours
Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Grote Gracht Maastricht

As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, Maastricht University is organising a series of free guided tours in Maastricht and the surrounding region. During these ‘UM50 Tours’, you will gain a unique insight into the university’s history, present and future.
Since its foundation in 1976, Maastricht University has grown into an international knowledge community with almost 23,000 students from more than 130 countries. Its impact on the city can be seen in the repurposing of historic heritage buildings: former monasteries, churches and administrative buildings have been given a new purpose as places for education, research and connection. The university is now also active in Heerlen and Venlo.
The UM50 Tours – part of the anniversary programme – each have their own topic. In addition to general tours highlighting university buildings in the city centre, there are also thematic tours, such as the Legal walk through Maastricht, the tour of the University Library’s Special Collections and a Running Tour past various UM locations. Tours in Heerlen and Venlo are also planned for the autumn.
The tours are available in both Dutch and English and are led by university staff members and guides from Explore Maastricht.
