Fifty years ago, something remarkable began in Maastricht. As early as 1974, the first medical students were educated by pioneers, driven by a unique vision and the courage to innovate, even before it was certain whether a university would be established. In 1976, the first official cohort of medical students at the State University of Limburg began their studies.

Problem based learning placed students at the heart of their own learning journey. This led to further educational developments, including the establishment of the Faculty of Health Sciences, grounded in a broad and integrated vision of health and care. This holistic approach continues to form the foundation of the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences today.
For fifty years, FHML has been at the forefront of education, research and health. This jubilee is more than a moment of reflection. It is a moment of pride and a shared invitation to look ahead. Towards 50 years ahead in health.
