Discover the stories behind the university’s buildings

with the Maastricht University Tour

History comes to life in Maastricht University’s buildings. Many of the university’s teaching spaces, research facilities and offices are housed in remarkable buildings. Behind these façades lies a wealth of interesting places, stories and architectural heritage. Curious to learn more? From now on, not only students and staff, but also residents and visitors to Maastricht can explore the stories behind these buildings: through a self-guided walking tour past university buildings in Maastricht's city centre.

Walking tour

UM staff members Evert van Zoeren and Fons van den Eeckhout know the university and its buildings better than most. To mark Maastricht University’s 50th anniversary, they combined their knowledge to create the Maastricht University Tour, a walking route that takes visitors past 13 distinctive UM locations. Each building has its own history, architectural character and fascinating stories. Put on your walking shoes and discover some of the city centre’s most impressive university buildings.

How it works

At each of the 13 locations, you will find a sign next to the entrance with a QR code. Scan the code to learn more about the building’s history, architecture and significance while standing right in front of it.

Evert and Fons have designed a route that starts at Minderbroedersberg 4–6, but you are free to begin the tour at any of the participating locations. On this page, you will find all locations and a map to follow and to help you choose your starting point.

Practical information

The walking route is approximately 4 kilometres long. Without stopping, it takes around one hour to complete. The total duration will, of course, depend on your walking pace and how much time you spend at each location.
