Schuman Lecture 2026
Programme
On Wednesday 6 May, Jonathan White will deliver the Schuman Lecture: Democratising the Future in Today’s Europe. At a time when politics increasingly revolves around short-term solutions, White poses a fundamental question: who actually determines our future? And what does it mean for democracy if we hand that future over to powerful interests, technology companies, or the preservation of the status quo?
In this thought-provoking lecture, White demonstrates why long-term thinking is crucial for a healthy democracy. He explores who is shaping the future today, who is being left out, and how we can re-democratise the future within Europe.
Jonathan White is Professor of Political Science at the London School of Economics and author of the widely discussed In the Long Run.
