During Heritage Unlocked 2026, visitors and residents of Maastricht will have a unique opportunity to discover Maastricht University's heritage. This anniversary year, in which the university is celebrating its 50th anniversary, focuses on the university's historic buildings. The themed tours are specially organized by TEFAF and offer a surprising view of places that are not normally freely accessible. Official guides take you to extraordinary locations where history, art and contemporary education come together.

About the event

There are two starting points: one departure from the Dinghuis in the center and one from the MECC.

Maastricht University Historic Maastricht
During the Maastricht University Historic Maastricht tour, you'll discover the art and stories behind the historic facades of two of the university's buildings. The guide tells you everything about the history, art and current use of the Faculty of Law in the former Government Building on Bouillonstraat and the Administrative Office on Minderbroedersberg. A special experience for everyone with an interest in culture, history and Maastricht.

Maastricht University — Randwyck Maastricht
Since the nineties, the university buildings in Randwyck have provided space for medical, psychological and physical sciences. Here, innovative research has been translated into a number of major works of art. The guide will take you through the campus and tell you about the development of this part of Maastricht. Walk along and get an insight into the modern buildings that still contain a surprising amount of art and heritage.
