Plastic Recycling Heroes: become a recycling hero!
Programme
Throwing away an empty plastic bottle? That’s where a new adventure begins! During Plastic Recycling Heroes children discover how used plastic can become valuable once again. In two free, interactive workshops, young researchers get hands-on with the science behind recycling.
Through stories, short videos, games, and experiments, children follow the journey of plastic: from the bin to material for new products. They examine everyday objects, take on the sorting challenge, and give used plastic a new purpose. After all, why can’t all types of plastic be mixed together? And what can you do yourself to throw away less plastic?
Little Recycling Heroes | ages 5–7
Through play, the youngest participants discover what plastic is and how recycling works. They sort, create, and learn how to use less, reuse items, and recycle materials.
Recycling Scientists | ages 8–10
The older children dive a little deeper into the world of plastic. They examine different types, discover how waste becomes a raw material again, and solve recycling challenges together.
Maastricht University is celebrating its 50th anniversary with the region. Through these workshops, UM is bringing research into circular plastics to children in Heerlen. In doing so, they discover how science can contribute to a future where we use materials more smartly. Join in and become a recycling hero yourself!
